RUBICAD
Provides Best-In-Class EDA Tools and Services
RUBICAD's
business is focused in the back end area of IC design. Founded in 1993,
RUBICAD’s original charter was to develop and market its proprietary IC
layout compaction technology.
Today, RUBICAD
no longer sees itself as a point-tool supplier of compaction software.
Since its founding, RUBICAD has acquired the know-how and underlying technology,
and has tools in place, in the following areas:
-
Layout entry
-
Layout compaction
-
Layout correction
-
Timing optimization
-
Power optimization
-
Signal integrity solutions
-
DRC and LVS verification
-
RC extraction
-
Layout synthesis
-
OPC
The following
trends in the semiconductor industry will create the next evolution in
IC design:
-
Increasing demand for wafers and increasing
wafer supply shortage
-
Reduced yield and smaller rate of good first
silicon in ultra deep sub-micron technologies
-
The gap between signal delay and gate delay
will continue to widen
-
The clock speed of designs will increase further
Increasing time-to-market pressure will be caused by an increased number
of design iterations in UDSM and by higher circuit complexity
-
Design reuse will be accepted more and more
as the most promising solution for closing the design gap. It becomes clear
that hard IP is the most practical and economical solution
-
Fabless companies are looking for alternative
wafer sources
-
Design cycles for large designs are three
times longer than technology cycles
-
An increasing number of system houses implement
a COT design flow
RUBICAD's design
methodology, containing a layout modification approach, solves most of
these problems. Many companies have adopted layout compaction technology
to reduce the effects of wafer shortages and create second-source wafer
supplies. The same layout manipulation technology can be used to solve
timing, power and signal integrity problems in order to reduce the number
of design iterations. Layout conversion technology is further needed to
convert hard IP to different technologies and to enable a global design
reuse strategy that will reduce time-to-market pressures.
By providing
best-in-class tools, effective design reuse methodologies, and TopQuality
Service, RUBICAD is the essential partner to companies that design for
leading-edge technologies and systems-on-a-chip.
RUBICAD's
Products
RUBICAD provides
the fully integrated tool suite LADEE,
(Layout and Design Environment).
LADEE includes
the following tools, which operate under the same database and graphical
user interface:
Wizard is
a task-oriented high-level interface guide.
DECOR
is the layout correction engine.
LACE
is the layout compaction engine.
LACEedit
is the IC layout polygon editor.
AutoMask
is an easy-to-use mask manipulation tool.
LayAna
automatically
analyzes an IC layout's hierarchy.
LayNet
extracts the hierarchical netlist of an IC layout.
BatchComp
allows interactive setup of a conversion flow.
CrossSpeed
calculates signal/power/timing constraints.
HierO
evaluates the layout for area optimization.
P-Rex
introduces parameterized cells into the layout database.
LINUX-Ready
RUBICAD's
IC layout tools operate under all major operating systems, such as SUN
OS, Solaris, and HP. The LADEE tool suite is the only integrated physical
design tool suite operating under LINUX.
Quality
Assurance
RUBICAD's
software development and service division operates according to ISO 9001
certification, ensuring transparency and the most reliable tools and service
to our customers. RUBICAD received ISO 9001 certification in June 1997.
Sales and
Support
RUBICAD markets
and supports its products through its direct sales, support, and service
center in Sillicon Valley. Headquarters are located in downtown San Jose.
